Kathy Briggs: Press

From Alternative Country, in Belgium:
"The first thought you have as a listener to "Gorgeous Girls", the debut of the singer-song writer Kathy Briggs from Boulder, is how far she can go, as her debut is so incredibly good. Briggs has a voice that is both powerful and warm, and uses it well to perform nine song she composed herself. Very good compositions too; written by a woman who knows what she wants. Good examples are "A Good Son", which describes the feelings of mothers with children in a war, and the bluesy "The Haircut", a hilarious story about a visit to the hair dresser with too high expectations.

Briggs says has been influenced by Patty Griffin, Sheryl Crow and Bruce Springsteen, with all of whom she has indeed something in common. But that is not all there is to say about this singer, who is a teacher during the daytime. You can hear her interest in blues and soul in her work for example. Blues in particular, along with folk, pop and country is one of the corner stones of her work.

The famous last words? Kathy Briggs is a gorgeous newcomer; "Gorgeous Girls" an equally gorgeous album. I'm sure we'll hear more from her!"

Here's quote for ya:

"Kathy Briggs' warm alto carries depth and conviction into all her
songs. Her writing matches her singing and delivers an unflinching
view of life`with a wry sense of humor and compassion. And Ray Smith's

Gorgeous Girls is a rich, satisfying album."
